WAPDA awarded the Diamer Bhasha Dam contract. An agreement has been signed for the construction of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam. A contract worth Rs 442 billion has been jointly awarded to Power China and Frontier Works Organization (FWO) for the construction of the central part of the dam.
According to a spokesman for the Ministry of Water Resources, the Diamer Bhasha Dam contract was signed by Amir Bashir, Chief Executive Officer of Bhasha Dam, while a representative of a Chinese company signed the agreement on behalf of Power China.
According to the spokesperson, the contract includes the construction of the diversion system, main dam, bridge, and Tangir hydropower plant.
Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Muzammil Hussain said that the total cost of Diamer Bhasha Dam is estimated at Rs 1406.5 billion and it will be completed in 2028.
According to Chairman WAPDA, the water storage capacity of Diamer Bhasha Dam will be 8.1 million acre-feet while the capacity of the dam will be 4500 MW which will provide 18 billion units of electricity to the national grid annually.
Addressing the function on the occasion, Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda said that today is a big day in the history of the country.
He said that our government started work on big dams like Mohmand, Diamer Bhasha in one year. This agreement has started a new chapter of Pak-China friendly relations.
