The US has welcomed the conviction of Hafiz Saeed, the head of the banned outfit Jamaat-Ud-Dawa.
The United States has welcomed Hafiz Saeed’s conviction. Deputy Foreign Minister Alice Wells said via a tweet that Hafiz Saeed’s punishment is an important development.
On social networking site Twitter, she said that Pakistan is following its promises on terrorist finances. Imran Khan has said he will not allow terrorists to use their land.
Alice Wells said Pakistan’s struggle regarding the finance of terrorists is in line with the international commitments. Prime Minister Imran Khan also said it was not in Pakistan’s interest.
It may be recalled that the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court has sentenced Hafiz Saeed in two cases yesterday. ATC sentenced 5-and-a-half years imprisonment in two cases registered in Lahore and Gujranwala.
Hafiz Saeed and his accomplices issued a 27-page written verdict of sentencing, stating that the prosecution proved their allegations before the court. Hafiz Saeed has also been fined worth Rs. 30,000.
