In the match played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Lahore Qalandars won the toss and invited Quetta Gladiators to bat.
Qalandars’ decision to bowl first proved to be correct and the first loss was to Quetta in the form of Shane Watson, who was dismissed without scoring.
After Shane Watson, Ahmed Shehzad and captain Sarfraz Ahmed also scored only 9 and one respectively. Patel outplayed three other players in the sixth over and Quetta’s first 6 wickets were sent to pavilion on total of mere 21 runs.
After six players were out, Sohail Khan played responsible innings, which helped the Quetta team to score 98 runs in 9 overs. Apart from Sohail Khan, Zahid Mahmood and Mohammad Nawaz, no batsman was able to enter double figures and Sohail Khan was the leading run-scorer with 32 runs.
From Lahore Qalandars, Samit Patel took four wickets. Shaheen Afridi and Raja Farzan took two wickets each. Chasing a simple target of 99 runs, the players of the Lahore Qalandars also found it difficult to bat as the ball was turning.
The first wicket of Qalandars fell on 27 runs when Fakhr Zaman was out for 20. After that, Sohail Akhtar returned the pavilion on 5 runs. Ben Dunk and Mohammad Hafeez did no further damage and easily reached the target in 11.5 overs.
Mohammad Hafeez scored 39 and Dunk 30 not out. Muhammad Nawaz took two wickets for Quetta. Samit Patel was man of the match for his bowling figures of 4/5.
