Pakistan Railways announces to temporarily suspend operation of 12 trains

Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed has announced to suspend the operation of 12 trains from March 22 in fear of the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed said that money would be refunded of advance bookings and 20 more trains would be closed if needed.

Sheikh Rasheed said that cleanliness arrangements have been improved at all the railway stations and every possible scanning of the railway passengers will be done.

Sheikh Rasheed said that if 20 more trains are stopped then it will make a difference in revenue. Total 134 trains operate in the country out of which 34 trains will be closed. If we stop 100 trains, the entire country will be locked down.

He said that due to Corona, there should not be a lockdown. The person who travels on the train is poor or the one who has to reach Karachi on time.

Referring to the Coronavirus scanning at the railway stations, he said, “This is not a solution. We are still scanning.” The Railway Minister further said that the corona testing facility is not available in railway hospitals. We have 48 major hospitals.
