Federal Govt ready to change the method of Senate elections. The government has drafted a bill on electoral reform under which it has been decided to give overseas Pakistanis the right to vote and to bring a fully biometric system in the 2023 elections.

The draft Electoral Reforms Bill contains more than 35 points. The proposed bill has decided in principle to give the right to vote to overseas Pakistanis. All overseas Pakistanis will be able to vote under the electronic system.

According to the proposed bill, overseas Pakistanis will be able to exercise their voting right in the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan elections, while it has been decided to introduce a complete biometric system in the 2023 elections.

The proposed bill also outlines measures to curb horse-trading in the Senate elections, proposing that the Senate elections be held on the lines of the election of the Prime Minister.

According to the proposed bill, the election result of the polling station should be sent immediately instead of 24 or 48 hours. The polling agent will be obliged to send the result immediately after the completion of the counting.
