Expressing dissatisfaction on the performance of the federal and provincial governments on the Coronavirus outbreak issue, the Supreme Court ordered the establishment of quarantine centers at Taftan, Chaman and Torkham border in two weeks.
A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the issue of release of prisoners on bail due to coronavirus outbreak in the Supreme Court.
During the hearing, the Chief Justice remarked that it is a health emergency to close hospitals across the country, where should diabetes and cardiovascular patients go?
When the Attorney General of Pakistan requested a hearing in the Chamber, the Chief Justice said, “You know what you will tell in the Chamber, I do not know what the qualification of Zafar Mirza is.”
He just makes the projection on TV. The federal report is making it clear that the federal is not doing anything. KP and Sindh governments are just asking for money not working.
The Chief Justice ordered that the government resolve the issues through Parliament while quarantine centers should be set up at Taftan, Chaman and Torkham border within two weeks.
At the commencement of the hearing, the Ministry of Law submitted a report regarding the under-trial prisoners to the Supreme Court in which the ministry opposed the release on the bail of the under-trial prisoners.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Pakistan expressed dissatisfaction over the report of the federal and provincial governments on the Coronavirus outbreak case and gave remarks as to what kind of emergency that all hospitals are closed, private clinics are closed throughout the country. No one is working. Everyone is talking about funds. Where should diabetes and cardiovascular patients go? The people have been left at God’s mercy.
The Chief Justice said that people are being told on TV not to leave the house and wash their hands for 20 seconds. The provincial governments are talking about money sharing and ration sharing. TV is scaring people from morning till evening. Chief ministers are ordering from homes and nothing is happening on the ground.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that the provinces do not have kits for the test. The provinces are demanding 10 billion. Meanwhile, the Attorney General requested the Chief Justice to be briefed in the chamber to which the Chief Justice said, “We all know what you will tell in the chamber.”
