Ben Dunk’s heroics helped Qalandars overcome Kings


In the 23rd match of the 5th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Lahore Qalandars defeated Karachi Kings by 8 wickets.

Qalandars captain Sohail Akhtar won the toss and invited Karachi to bat first in the match played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Karachi Kings scored 187 runs in the first 20 overs thanks to Alex Hales’s brilliant batting.

Lahore Qalandars completed the target of 188 runs in the first ball of the last over with the loss of 2 wickets. 

The other brilliant player was Babar Azam, who scored 38 runs and on a total score of 70, fell to Maaz Khan. Meanwhile, Cameron Delport and Iftikhar Ahmed returned to the Pavilion without any significant performance.

On the other end, Alex Hales continued his aggressive innings, while on the occasion, newcomer wicketkeeper-batsman Chadwick Walton changed the way with a smoky innings. Walton scored a brilliant innings of 45 off 20 balls including 5 sixes and 2 fours.

Alex Hales scored an excellent 80 off 48 balls with 5 sixes and 6 fours and was unbeaten. From Lahore Qalandars, Maaz Khan was the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets and Salman Irshad took one wicket while 2 players were run out.

In the chase of the target, Qalandars’ innings was disappointing and his opener, Fakhar Zaman, was bowled by Mohammad Amir without any runs in the opening over.

The next senior batsman, Mohammad Hafeez, also failed to perform well and fell to Umar Khan for 16 runs off 24 balls. After that, captain Sohail Akhtar and Ben Dunk aggressively set up the innings, and with a valuable contribution of 140 runs, led their team home.

 Ben Dunk once showcased his class by scoring an unbeaten knock of 99 runs off 40 balls. His innings included 12 towering sixes and 3 fours. Captain Sohail Akhtar also played a responsible inning and scored an unbeaten 68 off 46 balls.

Ben Dunk was the player of the match for his brilliant and match-winning knock.
